Orienteering 17/03/17

A Report by Adam Gough and Archie Tunnicliffe

On Friday the 17th March, we went down to the Ashbourne recreation ground to take part in an orienteering event organised by Q.E.G.S and Derwent Valley Orienteers. The primary schools got split in two groups, Years 3 and 4 and Years 5 and 6.

Firstly, we walked round the area and the helpers showed us how to use the map and the dabber. Then we went back to the beginning and we got given the time as to when we had to start, we started after eight minutes. When we started we had to run to a certain point but then you could run to any flags you wanted.  After you had got all sixteen or ten flags if you were year three or four, then you had to run to the finish as fast as you could to stop your time getting bigger.

When you had finished you went inside and got a receipt which told you the time that you took and your position.  Archie and Adam were the best in the juniors with a fantastic score of thirteen minutes and forty three seconds and they came fourth overall!  The whole of the Years five and six came 2ND overall. Because we did so well Mrs Edge took us to the park. Mrs Edge gave us a chocolate brownie or a flapjack.
